MZB continues to expand its precision ag business throughout Wheat Growers territory. A key element of that expansion is the addition of highly qualified people to the precision ag team.

The latest is Nick Ihnen, who is an MZB Technical Agronomist position for the southern Wheat Growers territory. Ihnen was previously a Sales Agronomist at the Wheat Growers Tulare location.

“Nick brings five years of MZB experience with him to his new role,” Brent Wiesenburger, Wheat Growers Precision Ag Manager, said. “He has a very thorough understanding of the MZB system, the operational challenges associated with getting the work completed and the technical aspects of most of the GPS controllers in our machines and our producer’s machines.”

The MZB Precision Farming System creates up to 12 management zones based on a combination of Veris EC information, RTK elevation readings and satellite imagery. The geo-referenced crop mapping provides exact nutrient requirements.

That allows growers to apply variable rate fertilizer and take advantage of variable rate seeding. Once a grower has the soil variability information, he can work with a Wheat Growers agronomist to build a precision management system, tailored to the field’s exact soil variability. The system can also provide annual billing of data logging services and application, mapping and sampling billed at time of service.

Ihnen will be working out of the Tulare agronomy facility and will work with the MZB team, assisting them with the development and testing of the new MZBTools.com platform.
