Watch SwarmFarm’s Autonomous Sprayer-For-Lease at Work

A robot from SwarmFarm Robotics, an Australian company that leases autonomous sprayers in a farming-as-a-service model, spot sprays a field on its own in this video tweeted by Jeremy Jones. It’s an example of the efficiency of autonomy, as well as SwarmFarm combining capabilities with precision spraying company WEED-IT. You may remember SwarmFarm as one of Ohio State University Chair Scott Shearer’s companies to watch in the farming-as-a-service and autonomy space.

Leveraging Variety Locator Files for Customer Success at Harvest

In the latest episode of RDO Equipment’s Agriculture Technology podcast, Tony Kramer dives into a hot topic he hears about from his customers around this time of year — variety locator files. He explains their benefit and how customers can use them to ensure success for #harvest22.

Why Connectivity Will Drive Agriculture’s Future

Only 25% of U.S. farms currently use connected equipment or devices to access data, according to the Assn. of Equipment Manufacturers. Andy Theisen, senior application engineer at Kondex Corporation, predicts the connectivity gaps will close one by one over the next 10 years, as younger, more tech-savvy farmers take over operations and OEMs increase their technology offerings. “The investment and changes have been on the software side of things with sensors and the ability for more automation. From that standpoint, we’re already heading down a path where connectivity is going to be required.”

Robot of the Week: AgXeed’s Cabless, Autonomous AgBot

AgXeed’s AgBot tills a tulip bulb field for Dutch farmer Henk Verdegaal in this short YouTube video. Verdegaal tells Future Farmer that he doesn’t have enough hours of labor to make a profitable return on investment, but the harder-to-measure benefits (like reduction of compaction and lower maintenance costs) and the possibility of cost-sharing the machine still make it an attractive tool for his operation.
