Farmer Uses AI to Build Harvest Schedule
Iowa farmer Kelly Garrett, who grows corn, soybeans and wheat across 9,000 acres, explains how his son used John Deere’s new generative AI assistant, JD, to build a harvest schedule. “We didn’t understand why we were experiencing some of the yield losses, but the AI will help you analyze that and pick a way to be more efficient,” Garrett says in this Information Week feature. “It’s just data management and data understanding, and adopting the AI is the next round of technology that can make us more efficient.”

Precision Technology is making its way to the Southwest Minnesota State Univ. research fields, thanks in large part to a $600,000 grant. “With the new grant, we’re going to get precision equipment,” Adam Alford, associate professor of agronomy, announced at a field day last week. “We’re going to have strip-till and no-till capabilities now. Both areas have interest because they don’t disturb the soil as much, and that reduces soil erosion rates.”
