After taking the week to unwind and catch up on work after a week-long trip to Sacramento for FIRA USA, I’ve had some time to reflect on some of the most interesting products I saw at the conference.
There were dozens of great robots and ag implements/tools on display, and I’ll be sure to share lots of videos of the best content from the event in the coming weeks. But I keep coming back to one product in particular that stood out to me as something that was really outside the box.
It’s such an interesting concept that I had not heard of or thought of before and so — instead of asking myself, now it’s time to ask you — Have you thought of this before and do you think it has potential to be effective?
Take a look at a clip I took from the event last week to see it in action.
Just before lunch time at @FIRA_team USA, Tensorfield Agriculture demonstrated a weeding implement that targets and kills weeds using… hot vegetable oil! #FIRAUSA25 pic.twitter.com/fFUUIwp63s

The product in question is a weeding robot from Tensorfield Agriculture that uses heated vegetable oil to target and spray weeds. The product fits in with a conservation ag system like no-till or strip-till because it causes no soil disturbance. And since they are only using heated vegetable oil to kill weeds, there is no extensive herbicide inventory required.
And if my shotty camera work didn’t give you a clear enough picture, there is much more info about how it works as well as a few more pictures and videos on the Tensorfield Ag website.
So, what do you think? Is this as unique as it seems to me or have some of you considered this option before. And most importantly, can you see a world where something like this could find a place on your customers' farms?
