RootWave Launches High-Frequency Weed Zapper

UK-based agtech startup RootWave launched a tractor-powered e-weeding machine for fruit orchards. CEO Andrew Diprose outlines the technology, which passes an electrical current through the weed by touching it. “It’s physics, not chemistry,” he says. “It heals the soils and it allows soils to capture more carbon, so it’s region ag friendly too.”

Raj Khosla, head of agronomy at Kansas State University, and his team have developed a prototype soil sensor that could potentially give farmers a cheaper option for reliable, on demand data collection. “If we are successful, the sky is the limit,” Khosla tells Progressive Farmer.
