Purdue Program Brings Precision Ag to High School Classrooms

Purdue University is bringing precision ag to high school and middle school classrooms. Dennis Buckmaster fills Brownfield Ag in on the AgBridge Workforce Development Program, designed to create a pipeline of students to enter the precision ag field after graduation. “It’s bringing the technology specific to ag tech to teachers in a way where when the participants finish the program, they’ve actually got modules to deliver in the classroom,” he says.

Young Grower Leads Charge for Precision Adoption on Family Farm

Seventh-generation farmer Austin Gellings has his hands full these days, helping run his family’s 20,000-chicken operation while serving as the senior director of agricultural services at the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM). Both roles give Gellings a unique perspective on the benefits of precision ag. “I’m not going to say, ‘It’s the silver bullet.’ It’s by no means the silver bullet,” he says in this Farm Progress article. “I look at it as a tool in the toolbox. It’s about providing farmers with as many options, as many tools in their toolbox as possible, so that they can pick the ones that work right for them.”

Local Community Excited to Host Ag Robotics Conference

The FIRA USA ag robotics conference will take place in Yakima, Was., for the first time this October. Engineers, educators and growers will gather for the annual event at the Yakima County Fairgrounds Oct. 20-22. “Washington agriculture is navigating some challenging times,” says Derek Sandison, Washington State Department of Agriculture Director. “Ag robotics and technology is no longer optional.”
