New Video: A Day in the Life of a Precision Specialist
Jack Swartz shares what his typical day looks like as a precision specialist for John Deere dealer RDO Equipment Co., and explains how he helps farmers make key decisions during critical planting and harvesting windows.
Why Technology Adoption Requires Tailored Strategies
There are currently 4 types of precision technology users — high adopters, simple adopters, low adopters and non-adopters, according to this Purdue Agribusiness blog. How can a salesperson tell which profile they’re most likely dealing with? Factors such as age, farm size and whether the producer systematically carries out financial planning can provide useful supporting context, but they're not definitive criteria. Citing extensive survey data, this blog takes a deep dive into the tailored strategies required for reaching each adopter.
USDA Announces Data Modernization Plan
Among the key takeaways from last week’s Farm Progress Show was ag secretary Brooke Rollins announcing the USDA’s new Data Modernization Plan. “This gives us the opportunity to incorporate AI and advanced analytics to improve the efficiency of everything that we do in this space, whether it’s for one particular agency or combined agencies to utilize shared analytical and processing across USDA to reduce cross-agency redundancy,” said Scott Hutchins, USDA undersecretary for research, education and economics. Read more about the plan in this Southern Farm Network article.
More Dealers Investing in Precision Spraying
We got an up-close look at Ag Zen’s AI-powered precision spraying technology last week at the Farm Progress Show. The system has been picked up by over 260 dealers this year, including AgRevolution, AgriVision, Greenway, KanEquip, PrairieLand Partners and Sloan Implement, to name just a few.
6 Ways I’d Use AI if I were Still an Agronomist
Here’s an interesting read from ag technology analyst Shane Thomas. The Upstream Ag Insights newsletter creator lists 6 ways he’d use genAI to enhance an agronomic business. “GenAI isn’t replacing agronomists — it’s enhancing them. Just like Google made the most resourceful people even more effective, GenAI is the same.”
