Autonomous Machine Plants Organic Corn Trial
Salin 247 shared this video on LinkedIn. The company’s autonomous machine planted organic corn trials at the Rodale Institute Midwest farm near Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Why AI Isn’t Showing Up On Your Bottom Line
Shane Thomas shared this Exponential View blog about the ROI of AI in his latest Upstream Ag Insights newsletter. “In 1987, Robert Solow famously pointed out that you could see the computer age everywhere but in the productivity statistics. He was right for the next few years, then wrong. Paul David realized this was a common problem with general-purpose technologies. They systematically depressed measured productivity in their early stages because companies needed to invest in all sorts of hard and soft know-how before the gains appeared. Erik Brynjolfsson calls this the productivity J-curve: general-purpose technologies are a drag in their early years because firms have to make complementary intangible investments before the gains materialize."
More Universities Offering Precision Ag Degrees, But Enrollment Lagging
Among the dozens of colleges and universities that offer agriculture-related degrees, only six have a full major in agricultural systems technology: Nebraska-Lincoln, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, the University of Missouri, South Dakota State and Utah State, according to this Hechinger Report feature. But many of these universities are reporting underwhelming enrollment numbers, which Bruce Erickson attributes to turmoil within the ag industry. “Agriculture has lots of problems right now,” the Purdue digital ag professor says, “including high fertilizer prices, fluctuating crop prices and concern about environmental impacts, including water pollution and cancer rates linked to pesticides.”
How to Launch, Fly and Map With New WingtraRAY Drone
John Deere dealer RDO Equipment Co.’s Bill Edmondson provides an in-depth look at the new WingtraRAY UAV, from unboxing and setup to flight planning, autonomous launch, mission monitoring and post-flight data processing.
Big Changes for Case IH and New Holland Machinery Dealers, Customers – and Rival Colors
The recent move by CNH to further align the Case IH and New Holland Agriculture organizations — often referred to as the "purpling" of the brands — has generated significant discussion throughout the dealer network. While many details remain unclear, North American Equipment Dealers Association sees both opportunities and challenges associated with this strategy. Farm Equipment’s Mike Lessiter has more in his latest blog.
