The combine harvests the grain. The elevator, the miller, the processor and the retailer take their margins. The farmer takes what's left. Agriculture has always worked this way. Now the same chain is forming around a new commodity — the verified record of how that grain was grown. The machines are already in the field producing it. Graham Gleed, Principal Advisor at abcg, asks who profits from the harvest.
A familiar chain in ag is forming around a new commodity — the verified record of how a crop was grown. The machines are already in the field producing it. Graham Gleed, Principal Advisor at abcg, asks who profits from the harvest.
We had a front-row seat to the launch of AEF’s Agricultural Interoperability Network (AgIN) at AGRITECHNICA a few weeks ago, which promises to ease the process of data sharing for farmers and dealers.
The Agricultural Industry Electronics Foundation (AEF), a global non-profit organization founded to improve cross-manufacturer compatibility in agricultural equipment, introduced its Agricultural Interoperability Network (AgIN) at AGRITECHNICA 2025 in Hanover, Germany.
The AEF has developed a software component they call the “common connector.” Available now, the standardized connector manages the network APIs, the set up, and the participants in the network, allowing visible peer-to-peer connections to all other participants in the network, and improving interoperability.
The Agricultural Industry Electronics Foundation (AEF), recently exhibited at the Association of Equipment Manufacturers’ (AEM) second “Celebration of Modern Ag on the National Mall” event.
Agritechnica drew a record crowd of 470,000 visitors from 140 countries to Hanover, Germany. The week-long show featured 2,812 exhibitors from 52 countries in 24 halls. The international show, which is usually held every 2 years, made its first return in 4 years after being canceled due to COVID-19.
For those who haven't been to Agritechnica, there are 27 halls. It's not for the faint of heart and you'd better have comfortable shoes on! My step count for the day: 31,913.
The Agricultural Industry Electronics Foundation formed a project team to develop the new Agriculture Interoperability Network (AgIN). The team will be creating AgIN guidelines for data formats with the intent of simplifying data sharing for end users, growers and operators.
