As farmers get rolling in the field this spring, many will be uploading seeding prescriptions to better target seed placement and optimize their crops’ growing potential.

Collecting and applying data to drive decision-making is nothing new to agriculture. But it’s becoming a more collaborative process, with a variety of stakeholders sharing the responsibility and benefits of delivering comprehensive agronomic solutions to customers.

A preliminary analysis of 2017 Precision Farming Dealer Benchmark Study results shows that more than 42% of dealers who offer data management service do so through use of an in-house agronomist, the highest percentage in the 5-year history of the study.

Adding an in-house agronomist is the approach RDO Equipment took nearly 5 years ago to bridge the gap between it’s diverse equipment offerings and growing precision farming offerings.

While the 70-store dealership group, headquartered in Fargo, N.D., hasn’t developed its own agronomic service platforms, it has been successful leveraging in-house agronomists for company-wide training and to successfully partner with local ag service providers.
